니트 어쿠스틱스는 영국 북부의 티즈데일에 위치한 스피커 전문 제조업체. 창립자는 밥 서조너라는 인물인데, 원래 뮤지션 출신. 35년간 음악가로 활동하면서 연주는 물론, 작곡에 프로듀싱까지 모두 겸했을 만큼 음악적 재능이 뛰어난 인물이다. 기타, 피아노, 더블-베이스, 밴조, 어코디언 등 여러 악기를 전부 연주했다고 한다.

하이엔드 제조 업체에서 제작자가 음악에 능한 경우는 레드로즈 뮤직의 마크레빈슨이나 뮤지컬 피델레티의 안소니 마이클슨의 예가 있다.

스피커는 음악적 튜닝이 보다 절실하게 요구되는 분야. 제작자가 뮤지션 출신이라는 데 신뢰가 느껴진다. 다양한 형태의 음악을 시청하고 튜닝해 감으로써 스피커가 완성된다고 한다.

The ULTIMATUM XLS loudspeaker is a standmount design which adheres to all the principles that have marked out the ULTIMATUM project and given it such enduring success. The ultra-rigid birch-plywood enclosure, innovative baffle-decoupling technology, ‘isobaric’ bass loading and use of twin EMIT ribbon-type super-tweeters are employed here to deliver the ULTIMATUM promise of a lifetime of musical enjoyment.

The enclosure comprises four discrete internal cavities each optimised for purpose. The Mid/Bass tuning is optimal for the main enclosure volume while the HF cabinet is small to increase rigidity and to stop back pressure from the Mid Bass driver adversely affecting the rear chamber of the tweeter. The two EMIT supertweeters are similarly isolated.

A dedicated XLS stand is available as an optional extra. It comprises an Italian black-slate baseplate with steel uprights and a tri-laminate top-plate made from steel/bitumen/steel.

M6 spikes are used to couple the stand to the floor, and adhesive putty is supplied to be used as an interface between the speaker and the stand. The rear upright can be filled with lead shot, dry sand, or similar ballast.

The XLS stand has been designed specifically for the XLS loudspeaker. It makes an ideal partner, allowing the XLS to perform optimally in any environment.
